The Hector Berlioz Competition 2020

The Concours Berlioz is close to my heart as it promotes the romantic French music of the 19th century – a tradition rich with treasures fallen into oblivion.
I am competing with the following program:

  • «Exauce-nous Seigneur»
from the opera Dimitri by Victorin de Joncières
  • La Chanson du Duc
part of the Chansons de Don Quichotte by Jacques Ibert, written for Feodor Chaliapin
  • «Au bruit des lourds marteaux d’airain» and «Que les songes heureux»
from the rarely given opera Philémon et Baucis by Charles Gounod
  • Le Cor
by Ange Flégier, based on the poem by Alfred de Vigny, in its original version for bass with the final ré grave
  • «Buvez donc ce breuvage»
the aria of Brother Laurent in Roméo et Juliette by Charles Gounod
  • «Si la rigueur»
the aria of the Cardinal de Brogny from La Juive by Fromental Halévy. This opera was one of the biggest successes at the Opéra de Paris in the 19th century
    and finally the
  • Danse macabre by Camille Saint-Saëns
